Outreach services are available to low income seniors living independently in the James Bay area without the support of family or friends. Outreach services may include:
- assessing eligibility for one on one volunteer services
- providing information on programs & services
- linking and referral to community resources
The outreach worker may also provide one on one support as needed.

In-Home Volunteer Services
Dedicated volunteers are available to support low income seniors or adults with a disability to live independently in their home. The first step in applying for this service is a home visit by the outreach worker to assess for eligibility and needs. Please contact our outreach worker at 250-388-7844 Ext. 318.
Assistance to medical appointments and errands for people who are unable to use other means of transportation (such as taxi or HandyDART) and are unable to get transportation support from friends or family.
Volunteers provide once a week in-home companionship to people who are isolated and would like to socialize.
A volunteer can help you with a minor household repair. Volunteers do not do the work of a journeyman or engage in renovations. You are responsible for purchasing the supplies needed for the repair.
Volunteer gardeners can help you maintain your garden and yard. You must provide tools and equipment. Volunteers can also help you set up your patio garden.
A volunteer will come to your home to walk with you for exercise or pleasure.
A volunteer can help you fill out forms, applications, write letters and read to you for pleasure and information.
Volunteers may shop with you or accompany you on errands. Volunteers without a car may go with you by bus, on foot, or by HandyDART.
Volunteers can help you sort your belongings and re-organize your space or help with organising papers and files.
Volunteers can help you learn basic computer skills. You must provide your own equipment.
