Volunteers

We have approximately 300 volunteers with a wide variety of skills and ranging in age from teenagers to elders. We place a strong emphasis on providing supportive and inclusive volunteer opportunities so everyone can contribute to the community, develop meaningful experiences and make connections.

Community Living Volunteers are an integral part of JBCP, coming weekly to make soup, bake goodies, garden, sort clothes, clean and help us with shopping. Along with individuals and their support workers, groups of volunteers come from Frederick Ozanam Centre, Community Living Victoria, and Future’s Club.

Becoming a Volunteer:

  1. Contact the Coordinator of Volunteers to schedule an interview/information session. Sessions take place Monday – Friday 9 am – 4 pm. Alternate times can be arranged.
  2. If a volunteer opportunity is offered to you, references will be required. For some positions, a Criminal Records Review is also required. Additionally, drivers who volunteer must have a class 5 licence, a clear Driver’s Abstract and $2-million dollars in third party liability insurance.
  3. Once all the administration is complete, new volunteers will be provided with an orientation prior to starting their volunteer work.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Capital City Volunteers, a sister agency to JBCP serving seniors and adults with disabilities in Victoria, has openings for some great volunteer opportunities in the following areas:

  • Friendly visitors/companions
  • Community outings
  •  Gardening

We believe that volunteering is a two way street that benefits both the individual and the organization and builds connected community.

There are many of reasons to volunteer: many people walk through our doors in response to posted opportunities; some volunteers come with a particular skill and offer to share their abilities, while other volunteers are looking to build new skills; some folks want to meet others and/or give back to their community.

If you are interested in volunteering, please book an information/intake session with the Coordinator of Volunteers and Community Programs, Kristyn Laver at 250.388.7844 Ext. 308 or by email at klaver@jbcp.bc.ca.
